  • What is your belief in communion? When? How?

Communion is one of the two sacraments of the United Methodist Church. It is a celebration of the last meal Jesus shared with his disciples. At this meal Jesus told them when he broke the bread, "This is my body." When Jesus took the cup, he told his disciples, "This is my blood." Regarding the two components of this sacrament, Methodist's believe in "real presence." This means that Jesus' words "this is my body" and "this is my blood" become real when the church celebrates this meal.  Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month. The usual method of distributing the elements is by coming forward to receive the bread and being offered the cup. The bread in dipped into the cup before consuming both elements together.
